Fundraiser is a galloping success

More than R6000 was raised for the Coastal Horse Care Unit at an outride fundraiser at the Durban Shongweni Club.

The KZN Eventing Committee recently held a fundraising event to help the Coastal Horse Care Unit raise much-needed funds.

The Coastal Horse Care Unit (CHCU) is committed to the welfare of all horses and donkeys from all disciplines of equine involvement. CHCU is based on a farm in the Cato Ridge area that was donated to the organisation and runs as a rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming centre for horses who are abused or neglected. They also have a dedicated team who does rural outreach clinics and workshops, educating rural people on equine care.

The Champagne Breakfast and Outride took place on Sunday, 24 January at The Durban Shongweni Club. The morning started with horses and riders going on a scenic outride. “It was great to see both old and young getting together and enjoying what they love most to support a worthy cause,” said Ashleigh Graham from The KZN Eventing Committee. After their ride, they were welcomed by the organisers, who served them champagne and orange juice and a very delicious breakfast.

A total of 98 people supported the event and helped raise R6 266. “This amount would not have been raised if it was not for the generosity of the sponsors who came on board. We would like to thank Coracall, Treverton Eggs, SALA Pork, Jennifer Harms, Janice Martin, Muscle and Fitness Gym, AnA Insurance Brokers, Food Lovers Market, Chantarelle Mushrooms and Richdens SPAR,” said Ashleigh.

After the success of this event, it was decided by The KZN Eventing Committee to make this an annual event. If you would like to find out more about the Coastal Horse Care Unit or assist them, contact Gill Olmesdahl on 073 550 3061.
