UPDATE: Westville man died protecting his wife

Westville family man, Gordon Donaldson, will be buried on Monday, 1 February.

A WESTVILLE man, Gordon Donaldson (55), who was brutally killed by unknown men in his home, was murdered while trying to protect his wife.

According to Donaldson’s son, Cameron, he was not at home when the incident happened.

He said his mum, Debbie heard dogs barking around 2am and his dad went to check.

“They threw a brick through the bedroom window and my dad fought them off while screaming for his wife to press the panic button. My mum went to the spare bedroom and opened the window to shout for help.

“She then heard a gunshot and found her husband lying on the floor, stabbed twice and shot in the stomach,” explained Cameron.

He described his dad as a family man, who put family first and loved his grandson, Rhays, and also loved music.

Donaldson was born in Scotland and met Debbie in England when they were 15 as they were both in a church choir.

“My parents loved each other; they met when they were 15 and got married at the age of 19. They came to South Africa to visit my dad’s family and decided to stay in the country permanently,” said Cameron.

Donaldson left behind his wife, Debbie, son, Cameron, daughter, Rhianne and his brother and sister.

The criminals escaped with a cellphone and fled through New Germany Nature Reserve. No one has been arrested yet.
