5 ways to beat the Monday blues

Don't worry, the Highway Mail is here to save the day.

MONDAY is the most dreaded day of the week, according to many. You’ve just had an amazing weekend, rubbing shoulders in high spirits and seeing happy faces and the sudden realisation hits you – Monday is coming. Before you know it, the party is over and it is back to the office again.

By now, you’ve probably had a few cups of coffee to and try and keep up, but somehow today this trick is just not doing it.

Don’t worry, the Highway Mail is here to save the day. We’ve put together a list of five things (much healthier than those cups of coffee) to get your spirits back up again, even though it is still Monday for the next few hours. Ugh!

1. Falling asleep on the job?

Although this theory has not been scientifically proven yet, legend has it that you can wake up any part of your body by shaking your head back and forth.

2. Listen to music

In the famous words of reggae legend, Bob Marley, one good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain. There’s nothing like hearing your favourite song on blast to lift your spirits. Go on, let your hair down and sing your heart out… But just be mindful that others might be trying to work, so keep it down.

3. Get up and move around

According to WebMD, a study showed that while eating an energy-boosting candy bar can provide the needed energy, a mere 10-minute walk can increase your energy for up to two hours. So take a walk to the kitchen, get a glass of water. Go outside, enjoy the sun for a bit.

4. Give your eyes a break

You’ve probably heard your mom tell you that you cannot binge-watch TV. As always, mom was right. Studies show that being glued to the computer screen can cause eyestrain and could worsen your already tiresome day. Look away from your screen every once in a while, you might just notice how good your colleague looks today.

5. Drink water

Water makes up about 60 per cent of your body, which is why dehydration can cause fatigue. Drink plenty of water to maintain the body’s fluid balance. Water also gives you clearer, healthier skin, maintains calorie control, helps cure hangovers… the list is endless.
