Gridlockers cause traffic havoc in Pinetown

PINETOWN roads were total chaos this morning, with traffic backed up at several intersections from 6.30am to 8.30am today.

Justin Bosse of the Ashley Residents’ Neighbourhood Watch warned residents at about 6.48am that there was a accident on the M13 Everton Road bridge. He urged motorists to drive with caution as all role-players worked at the scene.

He also warned motorists that the robots at the St John’s bridge were not working and traffic was severely backed up. Metro Police were requested to send pointsmen to that intersection.

A motorist, Margaret Smith, said she was stuck in traffic for more than an hour, even though she only lives seven kilometres away from her office.

“At these traffic lights, motorists drive into the intersection when there’s no space, and when the traffic lights change, they are stuck in the middle of the intersection. This causes a gridlock, and that’s where the problem lies. Also, people don’t follow the rules of one-in one-out at a four-way stop when the traffic lights aren’t working,” said Smith.
