Suspected aborted baby found in Pinetown

The body of a baby was abandoned at the rank.

AT around midday on Sunday, 17 January, a baby suspected of being aborted was found at the bus rank in Hill Street, Pinetown.

The person who found the baby alerted the police and a patrol van was dispatched to the scene.

The baby was wrapped in black plastic and was placed inside a bucket. Inside the bucket there was also a red bag and a pair of scissors.

“We suspect that the baby was aborted, but appears to have been close to term at nine months,” said Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the whereabouts of the mother to contact the investigating officer, Det W/O Chippie van den Heever, on 031 325 5054.
