Ashley Primary welcomes new principal

Kogie Naidoo was appointed as the new principal of Ashley Primary School in Pinetown earlier this month.

FOLLOWING her impressive 42 years in the education sector, Kogie Naidoo has finally been appointed as the principal of Ashley Primary School after holding the position in an acting capacity since 2014.

Naidoo had worked at the school as deputy principal for the previous eight years. The school has more than 800 pupils and 50 staff, who all fall under her responsibility.

Her teaching career began in 1974 at Port Shepstone Primary and High School. She taught English and history. She then moved on to a school for the deaf, VN Naik, followed by Marburg Secondary School in Port Shepstone and Collegevale Primary in Overport as a HOD before joining Ashley Primary School.

She said she is very passionate about her work and you will often find her in her office at 6.30am from Monday to Friday.

“I have a supportive school governing body and a band of hardworking teachers who are hands-on and make up a great team,” said Naidoo.

She said her motto was simple – to treat everyone the way she would like to be treated and as a result, gain the respect from all around her.

“I always look at ways to help my teachers deal with stressful situations, I’m empathetic and have an open door policy. I care about their well-being, not only at school but on a personal level as well,” said Naidoo.

When she’s not at work, Naidoo enjoys being with her family. She is married to Daya, a retired lecturer from SANBS and DUT, and they have two children, Prishalan and Priyanka. She also has a grandson named Rshav. Her hobbies include baking, cooking and reading. She fancies philosophical books and her favourite authors are Stephen Covey, Robin Sharma and Dan Brown.

Her message to to her pupils is to work hard from the beginning of the year to ensure a successful pass at the end of the year.
