Alleged rapist nabbed

The man was arrested and charged with a rape that he committed five months ago, and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court soon.

HILLCREST police arrested a 23-year-old man for rape at KwaNgcolosi Reserve on Sunday, 17 January at 12.30am.

According to Const Ndumiso Manqele, communications officer at Hillcrest SAPS, a 11-year-old victim was on her way to the shop to buy electricity on Tuesday, 25 August 2015 when she was approached by a man (who was known to her).

The man asked if they could talk and the victim told him that she was in a rush, before proceeding to the shop. On her way back from the shop, he grabbed her and took her into the nearby bushes. The victim screamed and the man said he would kill her if she continued to make noise. He threatened her with a nail clipper.

He instructed the victim to take off her clothes and she refused, then he forcefully ripped her clothes off and raped her. He fled the scene and left the victim lying in the bush.

“A case of rape was reported to Hillcrest SAPS and the docket was allocated to the FCS Unit in Pinetown for further investigation. The police eventually tracked the man down. He was arrested and charged with rape and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Manqele.
