Gelofte pupil tops SA’s matric results chart

KZN top achiever, Simoné Heenop was described as the most dedicated pupil in the school.

GELOFTE Skool pupil, Simoné Heenop, was named South Africa top matric pupil for 2015 in quintile four.

Simoné’s achievement was announced yesterday, (5 January) in Johannesburg where she was one of the guests of Angie Motshekga, Minister of Basic Education at the live broadcast of the national pass rate.

Simone, who will be studying teaching, was awarded seven distinctions, and obtained 100 per cent for Business Studies and Geography.

“I wants to teach at a primary school because I believe children need to be nurtured and developed while they are still small,” said Simoné.

Her parents, Mariette and Albert Heenop, said they are extremely proud of their daughter. “Her hard work and and perseverance have paid off. We believe that she has a great future ahead of her,” said Mariette.

Principal of Gelofte Skool, Danie Strydom said he is extremely proud of Simoné. ”It proves that hard work pays off at the end and without a doubt, she was the most dedicated pupil in the school.

“Even when there was no teacher in the class, Simoné would take out her books and read.”

Strydom said Simoné did not only excel in her studies but was part of the cross country and debating teams and sang in the school choir. “She was also a prefect and one of the Student Christian Society leaders,” he said.

Strydom added that although the school is extremely proud of this year’s results, they also have mixed emotions about not achieving a 100 per cent pass this year. The last time when the school did not achieve a 100 per cent was in 2007.
