Kloof family spoils Mariannhill children

A KLOOF family hosted a Christmas party for Jabulani Self Help Centre children in Marianhill.

Jabulani is a project that was started in 1988 with the help of the Missionaries of Mariannhill, serving the disadvantaged women and children in the area.

The centre is known for catering for around 120 women of the surrounding area who are taught to weave, sew, bake, wood in order to make a living and earn an income for their families.

This project was started by Sr Marco Gneis, who is still part of the centre.

The Christmas party was held on Thursday, 17 December for 300 children and 150 workers at Jabulani.

Juliette Dreyer Rainsford said they were visiting the home for the second time after having had a fantastic morning when they visited the first time.

“We donated hundreds of second-hand clothes, toys, puzzles, stationery items, curtains, cushions. My daughter also handed over some money she had raised by selling cakes at her school. The boys, girls and women were thrilled and sang beautifully for all of us. It was very moving,” she said.

The children were treated to party packs and ice lollies and cake and sweets for the women and men who work at the centre.

“My mom and I have been baking away. It has been a pleasure to do this and so rewarding,” she said.
