Alleged robber shot in both legs

Police recovered a black Mercedes Benz that was stolen during the house robbery and an i20 that was used by the suspects.

THE Westville Crime Prevention police arrested an alleged robber after a shoot out with police in Dawncliffe, Westville.

KZN spokesman, Brigadier Jay Naicker said police received a complaint of a house robbery on Wednesday, 23 December where a car was stolen.

“Police proceeded to Mwelase Road, where they spotted two cars at a graveyard. The suspects produced guns and fired at police who retaliated.

“One alleged robber was injured in both legs and was taken to hospital. The other suspects fled the scene on foot,”.

Naicker said no injuries were sustained by the police.

Two cars were recovered, a black Mercedes Benz that was stolen during the house robbery as well as a laptop and cellphone.

“An i20 Hyundai used by the suspects was also recovered. Investigations revealed that the vehicle used to commit the robbery was hired by the suspects,” added Naicker.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised Westville police for swiftly arresting the suspect and recovering stolen property.

“We will continue with our constitutional mandate to create a safe and secure environment for all, especially this festive season. This arrest is an indication that our police are out in full force to tackle crime and violent criminals without fear or favour,” she said.
