Waterfall retiree launches his first novel

I like strong characters like Child's Jack Reacher character and this comes across clearly in my book, he says.

RETIREMENT for Tony Duffy as been busier than ever as he has launched his first novel, The Casper Solution, and is busy writing another two books

The ex-regional salesman, who lives in Waterfall, began writing his book after having a dream that would later be the first three chapters of his book.

“I never remember my dreams but this one was so vivid but that my wife encouraged me to write it down so that I wouldn’t forget it.”

It has been a two-year project but Duffy is pleased with the results and loved every minute of writing. What started as a hobby has become a passion.

“I have never written anything in my life before but it was so much fun that I found that I wanted to keep on writing to find out what would happen next in the story. I enjoyed it so much and but I never dreamed it would get published.”

Duffy is an avid reader with one of his favourite authors being Lee Child. He describes his book as an action thriller with some romance and car chases thrown in for good measure. The book is about an ex-SA security captain, trained as a sniper, who is tasked with taking on the Nigerian mafia and corrupt government officials.

Having a fascination and interest in firearms and having done a bit of combat shooting means that all the weaponry featured in the book is legitimate.

“I like strong characters like Child’s Jack Reacher character and this comes across clearly in my book.”

Duffy explains that for him he sees each chapter like a scene in a movie rather than just the writing of the words. His wife, an ex-Kloof High School teacher who is also an avid reader has been instrumental in his success and has helped him read over his manuscripts, advising and editing for him.

Duffy is already back to writing, with a sequel to The Casper Solution on the horizon and another book, Joshua, a more religious book, in the pipeline.

The book can be purchased for R160 from Tony Duffy on 031 762 3328.
