Rain causes chaos on the roads

Paramedics attended to over 50 collisions between Friday morning, 4 December and Monday morning, 7 December.

RESCUE Care Paramedics were kept extremely busy this weekend with the constant rain in and around Durban. Paramedics attended to over 50 collisions between Friday morning, 4 December and Monday morning, 7 December.

“Although the rain is much-needed in our province, we see a marked increase in the number of collisions,” said Rescue Care’s spokesman, Garrith Jamieson.

Paramedics attended to multiple collisions in and around Durban some being more serious than others. The common points of collisions were the M13 near the Wetswood mall and the N2, both north and south-bound between spaghetti junction and Umgeni Road interchange.

“We urge motorists to please slow down in the rain and ensure their vehicles are in good working order. People should check their tyres and ensure they are not worn smooth and that their headlights and windscreen wipers are in working order,” added Jamieson.
