Community beat up alleged rapist

The man was transferred to RK Khan Hospital under police guard.

KWADABEKA Police arrested a 40-year-old man who was badly beaten by the community for allegedly raping a girl of 13.

KwaDabeka SAPS communications officer, W/O Sibusiso Ngcobo, said, “According to the information received on Tuesday, 24 November, the victim was called by a man known to the family to his house. The man sent her to the shops to buy airtime.”

Ngcobo said when the girl returned, she handed him the airtime and the change. “The man told the girl to keep the change. As the girl was leaving, the man pulled her inside, closed the door and raped her.

“It is alleged that the girl tried to scream and the man covered her mouth with a blanket.”

Ngcobo said the girl managed to push the man off her and escaped, screaming.

“The community heard what has happened and proceeded to the man’s house, where he was beaten and thereafter handed over to KwaDabeka police,” added Ngcobo.

He was taken to KwaDabeka Clinic and transferred to RK Khan Hospital under police guard. A rape case was opened at KwaDabeka SAPS.

He appeared at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 30 November.
