Winston Park garden wins Garden of the Year award

Entries for the awards are drawn from the best gardens in the Durban and coastal area.

A WINSTON Park garden won two awards in the Durban and Coast Horticultural Society’s recent Garden of the Year competition awards event, held at the Westville Anglican Church.

Rob and Shawna Thunder’s magnificent and tranquil indigenous garden in Churchill Road, which was landscaped by Miles Steenhuisen of Mass Landscapes, wowed the judges with its natural, rustic feel and beautiful water feature.

The Thunders won The May Kemp Memorial Plate for Best Indigenous Garden of the Year and the Fisons Floating Trophy for Medium Garden of the Year.

Miles Steenhuisen also walked away with the solid silver Medwood Trophy for Best Corporate Garden of the Year for his work in Surrey Park in Westville.

Entries are drawn from the best gardens in the Durban and coastal area and a number of categories are judged, which include Best Small, Medium, Large, Estate and Indigenous Garden as well as Best Entertainment Area.

The garden also impressed the large crowd of visitors who came to view it as part of the Rotary Anns’ Open Gardens.
