Home Affairs official arrested

'There may be more arrests to follow' - Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Constable Phindile Radebe.

A HOME Affairs official was arrested on Wednesday, 18 November at the Pinetwon branch.

The 32-year-old, who was a cashier at the department, has been arrested for fraud.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Constable Phindile Radebe, said they might appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The official has been working at the department for more than 10 years.

It is unclear at this stage what gender the arrested individual is, as Pinetown SAPS has said it is a male while the department said it is a female official.

Through audits it was revealed that the Pinetown branch didn’t bank a suffecient amount and over R100 000,00 was unaccounted for.

“The department had strenghtend it auditing process as part of the operation to eradicate corruption and criminal activity within the department,” said Tersia Hanekom from Home Affairs.
