Three injured, animals euthanised after truck overturns

Many animals suffered very severe injuries and had to be euthanized by SPCA officials on the scene.

THREE people were hurt and scores of goat and sheep were injured when a truck carrying the livestock lost control and overturned on the M7 joining the N2 south-bound.

Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the truck lying on its side while scores of cattle were walking around the busy highway. Paramedics found that three occupants of the truck had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised by advanced life support paramedics on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital.

Once all of the injured people had been taken to hospital, RTI officers, SPCA officials and the Metro Police assisted with the animals, many of which had suffered very severe injuries and had to be euthanised by SPCA officials.

The on-ramp to the N2 south was closed while emergency personal worked to clear the scene. It is unclear what caused the single truck to overturn, however the necessary authorities were on scene and are investigating.
