Book Dash promotes literacy with help of local talent

Book Dash is a non-profit publisher of uniquely South African children's literature.

LOCAL writers, illustrators and designers donated their time and skills to spend a day creating a children’s book from scratch in just 12 hours.

The event was held at St Mary’s DSG and was hosted by Book Dash, a non-profit publisher of uniquely South African children’s literature. Book Dash days involve creative marathons in which ten teams of three creative professionals volunteer their time and skills to create children’s books.

The idea is to create books that can be translated into any language and promote literature in underprivileged areas by donating books so that all children have the opportunity to appreciate and love reading.

“We have some awesome, proudly Durban writers, illustrators and designers and we’re sure that the books will be a fantastic testament to what Durban creative talent is capable of,” said Julia Norrish, project co-ordinator.
