Cowies Hill family traumatised by robbery

Upon exiting, the intruders pressed the panic button instead of gate button which alerted the security company to the family's aid.

A COWIES Hill family is still reeling with shock after being attacked in their home on Saturday, 12 October at 11am.

“We were sitting in our home and three guys walked in very quietly through the open back door. One had a mask on and I started screaming and ran to get my son in the lounge. The one grabbed me and started slapping me to keep quiet, which I could not do as I was hysterical,” said the still traumatised mother.

The masked man held a gun to her head and told her that he would shoot her if she didn’t stay quiet. She pleaded with them to just give her her son.

“They threw me into a corner with my son (5) and my husband, whom they had gun and knife pointed at. I said please, just take everything and leave us. The one with gun said we are not murderers, rapists or child hurters, just give us what we want.”

They kept the traumatised family cornered for an hour while they got information about where they kept guns and money by threatening them with a knife and gun, while the third guy rummaged through the house for jewellery and electronics.

They asked if we had a gun to which I said we are not violent people. I also got onto my knees and  prayed loud in front of them and asked God to protect my family they seemed to back off from me and got rather clumsy thereafter.

They wanted to lock the family in wardrobes but there were no keys on the doors. They then tied them up and took them to the bathroom and shoved them into the shower. They loaded the stolen goods into the family’s Fortuner and drove off. They stole items of an undisclosed amount of valuable which included gold, diamonds, electronics and cellphones.

Upon exiting they pressed the panic button instead of gate button which alerted the security company to the family’s aid.

“I want to warn other residents to please be vigilant, keep your front doors shut and keep your panic buttons with you at all times. During the day, you let your guard down and this is when they take advantage. Be aware of wanderers in your road. They were definitely watching our house before they attacked us.”
