Learners rewarded for their dedication to water health project

The award consists of a certificate and a book voucher valued at R500.

THE Kloof Conservancy used the prize money that came with the eThekwini Mayor’s Excellence Awards 2014, biodiversity category, for its Molweni River Health Schools Project to award the top life science learners at each school involved in the project.

Kloof High School, Thomas More College and Tholulwazi Secondary School were presented with their awards recently. Hillcrest, Wyebank, Kwadinabakubo and Kwabazothini high schools will have their award ceremonies in in late January 2016. The award consists of a certificate and a book voucher valued at R500.

The project uses the miniSASS system to measure the health of rivers in the Molweni River catchment and is a great way for learners to practice science in a fun and innovative way. Twice a year, 35 learners from seven high schools test the rivers and produce a report.
