Woman injured in bus and bakkie accident

The jaws of life were used to free a woman that was trapped in her bakkie.

A WOMAN in her 30s was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon when her bakkie was rear-ended by a bus on the N3 highway near Cato Ridge.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, said paramedics arrived on scene and found the crumpled bakkie lying in the fast lane of the road. The bus had stopped a short distance away on the side of the road.

The woman was found trapped inside the bakkie. Meiring said rescue services had to use the jaws of life equipment to free the trapped woman.

Paramedics treated the woman on scene and provided her with advanced life support intervention. She was then transported to Hillcrest Hospital.
