Carnival-style party for Ethembeni learners

The Robin Hood Foundation ensured the Ethembeni pupils had a day to remember.

The pupils at the Ethembeni School for the Disabled in Inchanga were treated to the annual carnival-style ‘Celebration of Life’ party, thrown by The Robin Hood Foundation.

This is a special day for the pupils, who are treated to a morning of funfair rides, music, balloon sculpting, face painting and lots of food and treats.

Four years ago, chairman and founder of The Robin Hood Foundation, Cindy Norcott, watched their choir perform at a fundraising event for a Kenyan choir and was moved to tears at how, despite their varying disabilities, these children got up on stage and gave their all in their performance.

After that, The Robin Hood Foundation took the school under its wing and throws them an annual party and provides them items that aren’t covered by any social grants or budgets and try to help wherever we can. Items such as toiletries, adult nappies, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, powder and clothing are all greatly appreciated.

“We are so grateful for the amazing community support for this project. Debonairs, Rodel, Araujo Attorneys, E4 Legal, Mums Mail, the I’m Possible Foundation, KZN Inflatables, Kim White and all of those who contributed and volunteered in helping to make it such a special time for the children. They look forward to this celebration all year round and even the bitter cold and rain couldn’t dampen the vibe in the hall – the children’s love of life and enthusiasm despite their difficulties is awe-inspiring,” said Norcott.
