Police recover stolen copper

The value of the copper is estimated at R7 000.

A 36-YEAR-OLD man appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 21 October for possession of suspected stolen copper.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, Pinetown visible policing members were doing their routine duties in the Westmead area when they spotted a suspicious-looking bakkie parked outside the scrapyard.

“It is alleged that, when the driver of the bakkie saw the police coming towards him, he drove his vehicle inside the scrapyard.

“Police followed the vehicle and upon searching it, a bag full of copper was found hidden under the scrap metal on the back of the bakkie,” said Manqele.

The man was arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen copper.

Manqele said the value of the copper is estimated at about R7 000.
