Murder suspect arrested in Hammarsdale

A SUSPECT who killed a local sangoma in the Qinabout area was apprehended and taken to the police station for detention after he was located in Hammarsdale, where he was in hiding

On 15 October at about 9am, Norah Koti Khawula (58) was accosted by the 37-year-old suspect, who attacked her in her home and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and chest.

She died instantly and the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage. The suspect fled the area and police were alerted. A case of murder was opened at Gamalakhe police station for investigation and the suspect will be charged for murder and will appear in the Ramsgate Magistrates’ Court.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended Gamalakhe detectives on their commitment to catch the suspect. “We will ensure that we thoroughly investigate this case so that we can present a thoroughly-prepared docket for prosecution,” she said.
