Chesire Home celebrates Golden Jubilee

Part of the people in attendance were two of the original founder members who have been involved since day one.

QUEENSBURGH Cheshire Home celebrated its Golden Anniversary in South Africa on Saturday, 26 September.

Cheshire Home is an international organisation with more than 350 homes worldwide. The Queensburgh branch was opened in 1965 in Moseley and was the first Cheshire Home to be opened in the country, with just three residents who moved into the original cottage.

The home now has 20 residents, all of whom are physically challenged but lead as normal lives as possible in the home, as far as their disability will allow.

“We celebrated 50 years in South Africa at the home, with a high tea with two of the original founder members, who have been involved in its existence from day one.

“Maureen Paige-Green and Marge Talbot were with us to celebrate this remarkable achievement,” said manager at the home, Brian Rossenrode. “From this, the first home to be opened in South Africa, 16 Cheshire Homes have since been opened throughout South Africa,” he added.
