Pleasing turnout for non-profits first fun walk

A local non-profit organisation with a sole purpose of working with offenders to reintergrate them back into society hosted its first fun walk and wellness day.

SIPHILISIWE Organisation, a non-profit group based in Malvern, hosted its first fun walk and wellness day, in Ward 65 on Thursday, 24 September.

The approximately 3.5km walk, accompanied by an ambulance and escorted by the Metro Police, started at a service station in Queensmead Industrial area and ended at Ridley Park where the completion of the event took place. The event was attended by the war room committee, ward committee members, as well as residents.

Speakers addressed guests about health and wellness issues. Founder and director of the organisation, Thandi Mabhida, said she was happy with the turn out and was pleased to see an old woman participate in the walk.

“On behalf of Siphilisiwe Organisation, I would like to thank everyone who attended and participated in this event. There was an elderly woman I spotted during our walk, unfortunately I did not get her name but she motivated all of us that healthy living keeps people alive and strong for longer,” she said.

The organisation works holistically on programmes of social care and early interventions of reintegrating offenders back into society and Mabhida added that she was glad to learn that the community was supportive of their quest.
