Crestholme resident and his pitbull save another snared dog

The pitbull was still recovering from surgery but still managed to save another dog’s life.

A MALE canis africanus caught in a snare had a lucky escape thanks to the efforts of Alaine Crawford and his pitbull, Isis.

On 29 September, Cresthome resident, Alaine Crawford, heard a dog whimpering and suspected that the dog was caught in a snare in the bush close to his house. He started searching for the dog, but the crying stopped and he had to give up searching as it was dark.

Alaine had previously contacted the Kloof and Highway SPCA when he heard a dog crying and was instrumental in finding and rescuing that dog caught in a snare. His female pitbull, Isis, had helped to find the dog in the dense bush.

On 30 September, Alaine collected Isis from the Kloof and Highway SPCA clinic where she had just been sterilised. He explained to Inspector Syd Nkomo that he suspected another dog was caught in a snare in the same area.

Inspector Nkomo and Doctor Nthombeni followed Alaine and upon arrival, Isis ran into the bush and led them straight to the dog caught in the snare.

“Even though Isis was still recovering from surgery, she saved another dog’s life and once again is the hero of the day,” said Lisa Gadd. “The Kloof and Highway inspectorate would like to thank Isis and Alaine for contacting us in both cases and we urge members of the public to report suspected cruelty to animals or animals in distress to the SPCA.”
