Pine Ridge patroller injured in Moseley Park fire

The man saw a smoke coming from his neighbour's garage and went to knock.

A 41-YEAR-old man sustained burn wounds while trying to put out a fire at his neighbour’s house in Moseley Park on Sunday evening.

According to Sharon Jenkins, who runs the Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch Care Unit, the man, who is also a patroller, saw a smoke coming from his neighbour’s garage and went to knock.

“There was no answer, so he tried to find a hosepipe to put the fire out, which did not work. He then went inside the garage and something exploded.”

Jenkins said the man eventually jumped into a pool after a lot of sliding and slipping. He sustained 50 per cent burn wounds to his body.

The Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch patrollers arrived on the scene and tried to contain the fire while waiting for the fire-fighters to arrive. The man also received first aid from the patrollers.

“ER24 arrived on the scene and treated the man before transporting him to hospital,” said Jenkins.

Chitra Bodasing, ER24 spokesman, said ER24 paramedics, VEMA paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found Metro Fire extinguishing the fire.

“It is understood that the man who was burnt jumped into a pool and waited for assistance. Paramedics arrived on scene and assessed the man – he sustained moderate injuries. He was treated and transported to hospital.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown.
