‘Charlie Charlie’, one of many ‘satanic’ ritual games played in schools

"Caregivers and teachers must be in the know when it comes to supernatural ritual games played by children."- Mariannridge Primary School teacher, Theo Brauns

A PARANORMAL game that is played in school is reported to have been the root cause of a KwaZulu-Natal pupil committing suicide.

It has been reported that a pupil from Apollo Secondary School in Chatsworth allegedly ended his life due to problems at school and his involvement in satanic rituals. His mother found him hanging by a towel from the burglar bars in his bedroom.

The game, called ‘Charlie Charlie’, is played with two pencils placed across each other on a piece of paper on which ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ are written.

Local school, Mariannridge Primary School, has had no recent activity of such a game, but a few years back had incidences of the pupils playing a similar game called ‘Glassy Glassy’, which involved a glass bottle – one would spin the bottle and when it stopped on someone, the rest of the children had to perform a ‘satanic ritual’ on that pupil. Another game was ‘Pinky Pinky’, which is played in the bathrooms by splashing water at a mirror and asking ‘Pinky Pinky’ to appear and give an instruction.

“These games have satanic influences. When we found out that our pupils are involved in them, we put a stop to it immediately,” said Mr Theo Brauns from Mariannridge Primary School.

Brauns also highlighted the importance of teachers being informed about such games so they can warn pupils and also save them from causing harm to themselves.

The KZN Department of Education said they do not want to popularise this matter: “It has only been reported in one school in the province,” said the departments communications officer, Sihle Mlotshwa.
