Family fun at Glenwood Community Festival

A busy weekend of family fun and entertainment.

A busy weekend of family activities is planned for the annual Glenwood Community Festival which takes place from Thursday, 3 September until Sunday, 6 September.

Opening on Thursday evening, 3 September is a showcase of more than 100 works of art from the various local high schools, which will be on display at Glenwood High School in an exhibition curated by Sarie de Beer. The work can be viewed over the weekend.

On Friday evening, multi-talented Durban actor, Jacobus van Heerden, will present his quirky, family-friendly one-man rollicking adventure – Catch! – at the Glenwood Preparatory School Hall at 7pm. This is a unique once-off performance at the festival, suitable for all ages. Tickets will be on sale during school hours in advance or at box-office prior to the performance. Tickets sell for R50 per person, R35 for Primary School children. Only 220 tickets will be sold.

Secure parking is available on the school grounds for ticket-holders. Refreshments on sale before and after the show, in aid of the Jeanette Smit Seniors’ Home in Glenwood.

On Saturday there will be lots of sports and fun events, starting with a treasure hunt in Bulwer Park at 9am and participative family events at both Glenwood High School and Glenwood Preparatory School.

Glenwood High will be hosting a morning city trail relay, a bridge building competition, art on display and an afternoon cultural showcase and prize-giving, starting at 2pm.

At Glenwood Prep there is a morning annual chess challenge, the Camelot College market day, the pre-schools fun morning – childrens’ games, jumping castles. All rides and activities are free. There will be a prize-giving for the treasure hunt main prizes; a match between the North Durban All-Stars soccer team and The Glenwood All-Stars soccer team; and displays by the Durban Girl’s High School drummies and Glenwood High School band.

Sunday is a community day of prayer at Glenwood Community Church, in Bulwer Road – there will be community devotional church service at 9am.
