Four nabbed with Telkom cables

The value of the cables is estimated at R34 000.

FOUR men were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property by ADT Security officers and Pinetown visible policing members on Monday.

Pinetown SAPS communication officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele, said it is alleged that at about 6.40am, the ADT Security officers were doing their normal patrol duties in Cowies Hill when they spotted a suspicious-looking car along Josiah Gumede Road.

“When they approached the vehicle, officers found two men loading items in the bakkie and two were inside the manhole. “Police also arrived at the scene and when the men were questioned about the items they told police that they were on duty but failed to provide police with necessary documents.

“The four men were arrested and about 23 insulated Telkom underground cables were seized,” said Manqele.

The value of the cables is estimated at R34 000. The men have been charged for possession of suspected stolen property and are expected to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
