Five killed in minibus accident
MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has appealed for motorists to be vigilant after five people were killed in a taxi accident.
FIVE people including children aged two and five were killed in a minibus accident in KwaDabeka, on Sunday night.
According to a media release from the office of the MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, the driver lost control of the minibus and crashed into a school property due to suspected break failure.
One person died on the scene and four died at the KwaDabeka Clinic. It is reported that the driver is still in a critical condition at the KwaDabeka clinic and a case of culpable homicide has been opened and is pending investigation by the forensic experts.
The MEC for Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, expressed his shock after receiving news about yet another accident that has claimed so many lives.
“This accident comes soon after the horrific Shaka’s Head (near Ballito) accident that claimed the lives of 16 people, last week Monday.
“It is disturbing to learn that more people are still losing their lives after so much effort has been done by the government and other stakeholders to fight this problem.
“It is more saddening to lose young lives in what could have been avoided if people adhered to the rules of the road.
“I want to appeal to all motorists to be extra vigilant when driving and that includes checking the vehicle’s road worthiness, fatigue, seat belts and driving within regulated speed limits,” he said.
Mchunu sent his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
