Donate a pack of hope

Local farmer and his wife need all the support they can get to assist the victims of xenophobia.

Gillitts resident, Shirley Elgin, a member of City Hill Church, would like your support in providing packs for Hope Farm in Cato Ridge.

Hope Farm currently has about 138 people who have taken refuge after the xenophobic attacks. These people consist of families, most with small children. Many are terrified of going back to their homes.

Local farmer, Andrew Wartnaby, and his wife, Rae, have allowed these people a place to live on their 50-hectare farm for months now.

“People ask us why we did what we did, but we tell them, how could we not?” asked Wartnaby.

“As anyone can imagine, a father and husband feels helpless when his family are attacked and there is nothing he can do,” said Elgin.

Elgin wants to put together toiletry packs to go to the farm, with essentials such as tinned food, wet wipes, sugar, toothbrushes, toothpaste, face-cloths, toilet paper, sanitary pads and nappies.

“We are also looking for four-man tents to give each family temporary shelter,” added Elgin.
