Several Westville roads to be named

The eThekwini Municipality announced that sixteen unnamed roads in Westville would finally be named.

SIXTEEN unnamed roads in Westville have been given the green light to be named.

The city’s head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa, said the decision, taken in a Governance and Human Resources Committee meeting held on Thursday, 6 August, will be taken to the executive committee and full council for a final decision.

Mthethwa said the names will be implemented in Ward 24 and they will be named according to themes in the area, which include trees and shrubs, and will be representative of the community’s sentiments.

Westville councillors worked with the community to submit proposed names, and as a result no objections were received.

Ward 24 Councillor, Warren Burne, said he supports the naming process. “It’s definitely going to be an improvement to have street names instead of street numbers. It’s a good idea to name the roads after trees as there are many tree parks in the area,” said Burne.

The proposed names include Pigeonwood Drive, Bushwillow Crescent, Sicklebush Terrace and Candlewood Lane.

“The naming of these streets will provide for easy identification of the roads and for ease of movement in the area, including for adjoining areas, such as Sherwood,” said Mthethwa.
