Paramedics found that eight people from the taxi, including a five-month-old child, had sustained minor injuries in the collision.

EIGHT people, including a five-month-old baby, were injured when a taxi and backhoe (excavating equipment) collided at the Tom Tom Road and MR518 intersection in KwaNdengezi on Monday morning.

ER24 spokesman, Russel Meiring, said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the taxi in the middle of the road and the backhoe resting against a small tuckshop.

“On assessment of the scene, paramedics found that eight people from the taxi, including a five-month-old child, had sustained minor injuries in the collision.

“Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries at the scene and transported them to St Mary’s Hospital for medical treatment,” said Meiring.

The driver of the backhoe did not sustain any injuries and the cause of the collision is not yet known.
