Créche receives drawing tools

Ukhololwethu Pre-School received a much needed boost from Nedbank in the form of cash.

A MOLWENI créche, Ukhololwethu Pre-School, received a donation of crayons, writing and drawing paper and cash of R2 000 from Nedbank to assist with their daily operations.

The créche, which was started in 1992 by the chief, Fano Dlamini, has had difficulties providing for the children after the funding they received from social welfare was stopped last year.

Dlamini said he was heartbroken when the funds were stopped as it meant that the children’s resources would be limited.

“I started this créche because I saw the need for children to be in safe hands and educational environment while the parents are at work, and had some very dedicated volunteers.

“I am a loving person and I have a very soft spot when it comes to children, and it breaks my heart to see children suffering.”

He said the créche started very small and they ended up registering it as a charity. Ukhololwethu now looks after 60 children, from babies to 5-year-olds.

“The money that the parents pay all goes towards food, sometimes it’s hard for the staff who assist in the daily running of the créche to get a stipend.

“We really appreciate this donation and hope that we can get people who can sponsor this créche,” said Dlamini.

The Nedbank retail sales manager said they always try to assist in community projects and organisation.

“We will continue giving, especially this month as it is Mandela month.”
