Malvern SAPS celebrate Mandela Day

Malvern SAPS members and the youth group honour Tata’s living legacy.

IN the spirit of Mandela Day, the Malvern SAPS took 67 minutes out their day to do good in service of others. The police started their day out with the children of Burlington informal settlement and crèche.

W/O Radhika Marimuthu explained the day’s events and significance. “In recognising an icon and remembering his magnanimous deeds for the people of South Africa, SAPS Malvern members, the SAPS Malvern Youth Desk and Escombe SPAR spent 67 precious minutes serving the memory of Tata.

The SAPS members and the youth group gave praise to Tata’s historic deeds,” she said.

The children sang songs in praise of Madiba and the SAPS members reminded the children of the story of democracy and Madiba’s role in it. Afterwards, the children were served sandwiches and juice provided by Escombe SPAR.

Later, the team went over to Flame Lily Frail Care to spend some time with the aged. Mandela Day is internationally recognised and the slogan is, ‘Take Action. Inspire change. Make every day a Mandela Day’.

The message behind the day is simple – each one of us is able to take the responsibility to change the world for the better. According to MandelaDay.com, if we all heeded the call to simply do good every day, we would be living Nelson Mandela’s legacy and helping to build a country of our dreams. The baton of leadership has been handed over to us. It is in our hands now to make a positive difference.
