Host families wanted at Ethelbert

Help the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre give children who have been deprived of everyday life experiences due to being abandoned, abused and or neglected a second chance.

CARING residents are invited to partner with the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre in providing life skills experiences for some of the 65 children placed in their care by the Children’s Court. The centre is recruiting host families who will assist by providing everyday life experiences for children who have been deprived of these due to being abandoned, abused and or neglected.

These children are between the ages of two and 15 years old. Host-families are at liberty to decide whether they will take a child out for a day, a sleep-over or for a holiday. All host placements are carefully planned, and ongoing support is given through regular meetings and telephonic contact to assist the family in partnering with Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre in meeting some of the child’s social and emotional needs.

Ideally, host families must be willing to become people on whom the child can rely. Therefore, only those who are able to make this commitment should consider becoming involved in such a programme.

Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre is in Malvern and has been caring for children for over 107 years. The centre will be holding an introduction open day on Saturday, 22 August, when interested persons will be able to visit the home and learn how hosting can make a difference in a child’s life. If you are interested, phone Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre on 031 464 6555 during office hours to confirm your attendance on open day.
