Eleven wanted suspects arrested in the Hillcrest area

Hillcrest SAPS arrest 11 suspects for various crimes committed in the highway area.

ON Wednesday, 15 July Hillcrest SAPS members embarked on a one-day operation in their area tracing wanted suspects. During the operation, they arrested a total of 11 suspects for various crimes including house robbery, housebreaking and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. All arrested suspects are due to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 17 July. The members recovered a .38 revolver, which was taken during the house robbery in the area. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if it was used in any crimes in the country.

On 9 July, the victim was with his wife in their house at Delamore Road when they were approached by two suspects. They were threatened with a knife and the suspects took an iPhone, laptop, jewellery, cash and a firearm before they fled the scene. A case of house robbery was opened at Hillcrest police station for further investigation.

In another operation that was held at Zwelibomvu area near Pinetown, four unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition were recovered and two suspects were arrested. They were arrested during the joint two-day operation by Umhlali K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence and Provincial Task Team. The arrested suspects are appearing in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today facing their charges.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the members for the arrest of the suspects. “We will continue working hard as the South African Police Service to make sure that criminals are behind bars. Community are encouraged to continue with their support in the fight against crime by providing valuable information about wanted criminals,” she said.
