Bogus policemen strike during load shedding

Ten Ethiopian businessmen were robbed by five men posing as police officers in Waterfall.

BOGUS police robbed 10 Ethiopian men of their cellphones and R25 000 cash in Waterfall on Tuesday, 14 July.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, one man was renting a room in Kundalinda Road and was holding a business meeting with nine other men.

“Five men approached them; four were in full police uniform and one was wearing civilian clothing with a police reflector jacket on.

“The ‘police’ ordered them to lie down and they took their cellphones, valued at R20 000, and a cash amount of R25 000,” said Manqele.

He added that these ‘policemen’ were driving a grey VW Polo.

“The complainants were not able to pick up the registration number as the incident happened very fast while there was load shedding,” he said.

A case of house robbery was opened at Hillcrest SAPS and police are investigating.

According to reports, this incident brings to three the number of cases reported over the last two days involving bogus police officers in KwaZulu-Natal.
