Tenants oppose proposed KFC drive-through

Any person willing to provide a written comment regarding the KFC drive-through can do so before Monday, 27 July.

PINETOWN tenants are objecting to the proposed KFC drive-through at the intersecton of Bamboo Lane and Warwick Place in Pinetown.

Tenants said the traffic at the intersection of Bamboo Lane and Warwick Place is already a nightmare, with Knowles Centre and The Towers on the opposite side of the road.

One of the tenants, Dr Gert van Zyl, said his surgery is in the building adjacent to the property in question.

“Having a KFC next door it is not conducive to professional offices – doctor’s surgery, dentist, accountants and other various tenants. Parking in this area is already a problem.

“Currently there is an enormous amount of traffic at this intersection. Bringing in a KFC drive-through will make the situation unbearable and a high risk area for traffic accidents,” said Dr van Zyl.

EThekwini Municipality’s head of communication, Tozi Mthethwa, said the rezoning application for the KFC drive-through from Office 2 to Limited Commercial was advertised on Friday, 26 June and it closes for objection on Monday, 27 July.

“Any person willing to provide a written comment regarding the application should lodge their comments at the Land Use Management Offices at 60 Kings Road, Pinetown. The Land Use Management Office is on the second floor.

“The comments can also be e-mailed to menelisi.mhlanga@durban.gov.za or vivegi.chetty@durban.gov.za.

She added that the application was circulated to all relevant departments, including the eThekwini Traffic Authority, and these departments have supported the application.
