WIN: 400 ‘living jewels’ expected at koi show

There will be 38 three meter diameter ponds erected on the show site, filled with treated water and lots of air to keep the 400 odd koi happy.

THE annual Koi Show will once again be held from 25 to 26 July in Parkade D at Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga Rocks. This show has gained the reputation for being the premier koi show in South Africa, attracting the best quality koi in the country. Koi dealers will also be coming from around South Africa, offering the public an opportunity once again to see everything that is available to not only koi hobbyists but those who simply enjoy water and garden features.

Few people get to see koi fish measuring over 90cm in length, with stunning colours, gracefully swimming just feet away from them, and the Koi Show gives everyone a unique opportunity to do so. The koi on show are mostly from private collections. With more than 400 of these ‘living jewels’ expected to be on show this year, the South African Koi Keepers Society will have world-renowned judges coming from the UK, Holland and Thailand to judge the koi entries, together with local South African judges.

Experts on all aspects of koi keeping and water features will be present to offer advice and assistance to anyone interested in this fascinating hobby. This year, there are a number of new stand holders offering both koi and some exciting new products for water features and ponds as well as bonsai and orchids.

There will be 38 three-metre diameter ponds erected on the show site, filled with treated water and lots of air to keep the 400-odd koi happy. A donation is also made to the Lions, whose members assist in manning the entrance to the Koi Show. Show opening times are 8am to 5pm on Saturday, 25 July and 9am to 3pm on Sunday, 26 July. Tickets cost R20 an adult and R10 for children under 12.
