GRADE R pupils from St Mary’s DSG visited Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) to learn more about the organisation’s work in helping wild animals in distress.

Having selected CROW as their charity beneficiary at the beginning of this year, the children handed over a cheque for a donation of R4 627.50 which will be used for the care and treatment of CROW’s wildlife patients.

These funds were raised through the Grade R pupils’ Baker, Baker project, whereby each Grade R child has been taking turns to bake and sell muffins and cakes at school every Friday.

After the pupils’ visit to CROW and meeting some of the wildlife housed there, the children are keen to carry on with their project and try raise more funds for CROW during the rest of the year.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of CROW, the organisation’s Education Officer, Nompilo Ngcobo, said they are so grateful to all the St Mary’s Grade R pupils, parents and teachers for their hard work and support.

“The funds they have raised are going to be a huge help to us in feeding and caring for our injured and orphaned patients this winter,” said Ngcobo.

CROW will be running a Wildlife Warriors Holiday Club for children aged seven to 12 in the upcoming July school holidays. The half-day club will take place every week day from the Monday, 29 June to Friday 17 July and will involve environmental education sessions with fun games and recycled art projects.

For bookings, contact Nompilo on 031 462 1127 or e-mail education@crowkzn.co.za. Space is limited and pre-booking is essential.
