Boot camp raises funds for charity

Residents get fit while making a worthy contribution to charity.

A RESCUE organisation that strives to assist abandoned and abused animals received a donation of food, blankets and R4 000 through a charitable initiative titled, Christ Fit.

Riaan Dohne, owner of Rishape Fitness Studio in Westville, started this project in September last year and, since its inception, more than four organisations have benefited from this worthy cause, with Animal Rescue being the most recent recipient. Speaking about the inspiration behind his project, Dohne said that he chose to combine his three passions which are God, fitness and community upliftment projects.

“The boot camp sessions are held every Saturday at the studio at 7am, and instead of residents paying for the classes, they can either make a cash donation or bring in an item that can be used by the chosen organisation for that particular month,” said Dohne.

Addele Jood, founder of Animal Rescue, was overwhelmed with emotions at the handover. With tears of joy, Jood said, “No amount of words would be able to express my appreciation to Riaan, Tanya Hall and everyone who make a donation. The R4 000 that we received will be used for vet bills.”

Tanya Hall, who participates in the boot camps and recommended Animal Rescue as the beneficiary for the month of May, said, “This boot camp is such a good idea because charities are benefiting from these classes. People have truly opened their hearts and pockets to make these donations. I am a foster, so when Addele picks up or receives abandoned or injured animals, I assist by taking care of them until someone adopts them.”

Hall added that Jood must be commended for her commitment and outstanding work done to save animals.
