The orphans at Siyajabula Orphanage in Molweni will be warm and cosy this winter thanks to Cell C’s Mandela Day Blanket Challenge initiative.
Cell C’s Durban regional office handed over over 100 donated blankets to the Siyajabula Orphanage as part of the company’s drive to ‘Make Every Day a Mandela Day’.
This was highlight of the year for the office staff, who turned out in their numbers to give to the needy and were touched and humbled by the experience. One of the organisers, Buhle Yaka, said they were given a warm welcome by the orphanage.
“They could not hide their excitement as we told them about the blankets we were delivering to them. The blankets came in different shapes and sizes, and each person was able to find one that fitted their bed.”
She added, “Resources such as blankets may appear trivial to many, but for those who are without many privileges in life, this small gesture could mean the whole world to them. Cell C subscribes to the values and ethos of Ubuntu, celebrated by the late Nelson Mandela.”
