Five injured in Hillcrest accident

A Netcare rescue officer used the jaws of life to free the wounded from the twisted frame of the taxi.

FIVE people were injured, one critically, after a taxi and a Jeep collided head-on along Old Main Road in Hillcrest on Saturday.

Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found some of the injured still trapped in the wreckage.

Chris Botha, Netcare 911 media liaison officer, said while firemen and the Netcare rescue officer used the jaws of life to free the wounded from the twisted frame of the taxi, paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise them.

“After the patients were extricated and skilfully immobilised by the medics, they transported them to various hospitals,” he said.

Exact details of the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
