‘Schoolgirl’ con artist nabbed again

The teen who has been scamming residents in the Upper Highway area has been arrested.

THE ‘schoolgirl‘ who has been scamming unsuspecting residents was arrested again earlier today and this time is expected to make her first court appearance on Monday.

Steven King of Waterfall Crime Watch and Securelink confirmed that the arrest was made by the Hillcrest SAPS, and the she is 19 years old and not 16 as previously mentioned.  A cellphone, which was stolen from her last victim, was also recovered during the arrest.

Owner of the cellphone, Vanessa Nealon Burn, who was robbed by the teen last Saturday, shared a detailed account of her experience. “I gave her a lift from West Riding Road. She told me her parents had died from a snake. Even though I knew she was lying, she just acted so well and seemed innocent. I almost withdrew money but lucky I didn’t. She begged me with crocodile tears. I gave her the few coins I had and wished her luck. I dropped her off outside the Watercrest Mall and when I got home my phone was gone. When I dialed my number, it was already off.

“I got my phone back, but there is no memory card.  I don’t care about getting my phone back, but the memory card had pictures of my late son Tristen, who died three years ago from hospital negligence, and that is why I wanted my card back. I will never get those replaced.”

Residents are still urged to open a case if they have been scammed. If you have been a victim, contact Steven King on 082 920 5799 or e-mail sacomcrimewatch@gmail.com.
