Hillcrest travelling gogo returns home

A Hillcrest gogo who was stuck in Cape Town is back with her family with the help of a Westville travel agency.

THEMBELIHLE Mavis Nzimande, a Hillcrest gogo who was stuck in Cape Town, has returned home with the help of Consolidated Travel.

Nzimande first appeared in the Highway Mail (Friday, 15 May) as Hillcrest SAPS needed assistance to track her relatives.

The Embo gogo was found at the Cape Town airport, carrying a bag with clothes and personal belongings. Nzimande made her second appearance in the paper after her relatives came forward, but said they needed help to fetch her from Cape Town.

A travel agency in Westville was touched by Nzimande’s story and offered to pay for Nzimande and her granddaughter, Ntombi Khumalo’s bus tickets.

Mahesh Naidoo from the agency said they often assist various organisations. “Nzimande’s story really touched us so we offered our assistance to the family. We are very happy that the gogo is safely back in Durban with her family,” said Naidoo.

Nzimande’s granddaughter, Ntombi, expressed her gratitude to the company and Cst Ndumiso Manqele, who went out of their way to help bring her granny back home.

According to Ntombi, her granny usually leaves her in the mornings and comes back in the afternoon. “We do not reside in the same house but live in the same area. Sometimes she would be gone for days, but she always come back home. We once found her at King Shaka International Airport.”

Ntombi said she started worrying after not seeing her for a couple of days outside her house. “I always see her in the mornings on my way to work. After a few days, I saw the article in the paper,” she said.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, thanked the community and Consolidated Travel for playing a huge role in the safe return of Nzimande.
