TWO South African runners claimed victory in the men and women’s race at the 90th Comrades Marathon, earlier today.
According to media reports, Gift Kelehe completed the race in a time of 5:38:35, seven minutes and 39 seconds, while Caroline Wostmann completed the race in a time of 6:12:22.
Kelehe completed the race seconds ahead of Mohammed Husien from Ethiopia, who was placed second. South Africa’s Hatiwande Nyamande was placed third.
The win was also a memorable and historic for Wostmann who also won the Two Oceans Marathon earlier this year. Her phenomenal performance marks the first time in 16 years that a South African woman has won the marathon.
Russia’s Elena Nurgalieva finished third, just ahead of her twin sister.
