Car crashes into Clermont home

A family fears for their lives after a car crashed into their home last Friday.

BRICKS and sticks is what the Khumalo family have to use to protect themselves from the cold weather and potential dangers after a car crashed into their home last Friday. The three-bedroom house in Clermont was damaged as the front wall collapsed.

Owner of the house, Kholiswa Khumalo (who is a pensioner), said she got the shock of her life when she received a call from a friends’ daughter informing her about the incident.

“I was at church when I received a call that a car has crashed into my house. I just rushed back to the house and did not even wait for transport. When I got to the house there were people all over. Luckily no one was at home when the accident happened,” she said.

Khumalo said this accident has traumatised the family as their house is next to the road. “We have to block the kitchen door with bricks because we fear for our lives.”

The family said they have been in touch with the driver of the car, who was injured during the accident. According to Khumalo there were two cars that were involved. “One car crashed into my house and the other one hit a pole next to the road,” she said

Ward 22 councillor, Sibongise Mkhize, said the family and the driver of one car have been in contact. “It was an unfortunate accident for all parties involved, as the woman who was driving the car was also injured and she has not recovered fully yet. The family would be very grateful for any assistance,” he said.

Anyone who wishes to assist the family can contact Kholiswa Khumalo on 073 993 8207.
