AN aspiring writer’s dream may go down the drain if her talent is not exposed on the right platforms.

Rebecca Buthelezi (23), who currently works as a cleaner in one of the buildings in New Germany to support her three-year-old daughter, has penned a collection of poems.

“I am a single mother and I want my daughter to be proud of me. I always put her first in everything that I do.

“Writing is my passion: I started writing in school when I was in Grade 8. My first love was to get into broadcast media, but I could not further my studies as I did not have the money.”

Buthelezi lost her mother when she was in Grade 9 and thereafter lived with her relatives. She said she has gone through a lot of trials in her life, but through faith she has persevered. “Writing also helps me a lot, as I can express my views and feelings through it.”

Rebecca added that she would love to write her own book one day which could change people’s lives.

“I hope that one day I could work at a place where I could showcase and polish my writing skills.

“I want people to be healed and gain hope and self confidence when reading my book. I want it to be positive and motivational; there are already a lot of bad and scary things happening in the world.

“It will be full of solutions and positive ideas,” she said.

Rebecca has also worked at various call centres as she has a call centre certificate.
